If you are on active duty today, serving honorably, anywhere in the world, or have served honorably during any eligible war eras, you can become a member of The American Legion!

Membership Eligibility War Eras
- April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918 (World War I)
- December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946 (World War II)
- June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1955 (Korean War)
- February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)
- August 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon/Grenada)
- December 20, 1989 to January 31, 1990 (Panama)
- August 2, 1990 to today (Gulf War/War On Terrorism)

American Legion Auxiliary Membership Eligibilty
A woman who is eligible for membership in The American Legion is also eligible to join the American Legion Auxiliary.
To be eligible you must be the mother, wife, daughter, sister, grand-daughter, great-grand-daughter, or grandmother (step relatives are also eligible) of members of The American Legion, and deceased veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces during the listed war eras (click here for listed eligibility periods).
Junior membership is offered to anyone under the age of 18 years and younger who is an immediate family member of an American Legion member or a deceased veteran.

SONS Of The American Legion Membership Eligibility
To be eligible, you must be a male descendant (includes stepsons and adopted sons) of a member of The American Legion.
You would also be eligible to join the Sons of The American Legion if you are the male descendant (stepsons and adopted sons included) of a veteran who died in service during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, or the Persian Gulf War
You would also be eligible to join the Sons of The American Legion if you are the male descendant (stepsons and adopted sons included) of a veteran who died subsequent to his or her honorable discharge from service in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, or the Persian Gulf War (click here for listed eligibility periods).

American Legion Riders Membership Eligibility
Members must hold membership in and be in good standing with
The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary or Sons of The
American Legion.
Members must be legally registered motorcycle owners or be the
legally registered owner's spouse within the state of registration.
All operators must be properly licensed and insured per state laws.
All members must obey motor-vehicle laws in the state in which they
are operating a motorcycle or riding as a passenger.

Social
If you have no military affiliation you may be eligible for a Social membership at American Legion Post 517. For membership eligibilty submit an application for social membership available at the Post. Your completed application will be reviewed by our Board of Directors to detemine if you will be granted acceptance of American Legion Post 517 social membership.
